Microsuction Ear Wax Removal
Microsuction is our main method for treating excessive or impacted ear wax.
A small suction device is used under direct visual guidance to carefully remove wax from the ear canal. Because the practitioner can see the ear throughout the procedure, treatment can be targeted precisely.
Microsuction may be suitable for people experiencing symptoms such as:

Professional Ear Health Assessments
You do not need to know whether ear wax is causing your symptoms before arranging an appointment.
Every Ear Care Dorset appointment includes an ear health assessment using an otoscope or video otoscope to examine the ear canal and, where visible, the eardrum.
This allows us to check for:
excessive or impacted ear wax
dry skin or debris within the ear canal
signs of irritation or inflammation
abnormalities that may mean treatment should not proceed
whether the ear canal is already clear
Where appropriate, you can also be shown the live image from inside your ear so you can see what the practitioner is seeing.
If there is no significant wax to remove, we will not carry out unnecessary treatment.
If something is identified that requires assessment outside our scope of practice, we may advise you to contact your GP, pharmacist, audiologist or another appropriate healthcare professional.
Pre-Flight Ear Health Checks
If you are due to fly and are concerned about blocked ears or possible ear wax, we offer a dedicated Pre-Flight Ear Health Check.
The appointment includes an examination of the ear canals and eardrums where visible to check whether obstructive wax is present before you travel.
If ear wax removal is needed and it is clinically appropriate to proceed, treatment can usually be carried out during the same visit.
A pre-flight check does not guarantee that you will avoid pressure-related discomfort while flying, as this can also be caused by problems affecting the middle ear or Eustachian tubes.
Ear Care for Hearing Aid Users
People who wear hearing aids can be more prone to problems caused by ear wax.
Hearing aids and earmoulds can interfere with the ear's normal movement of wax out of the ear canal, and excessive wax may also affect how a hearing aid performs.
We can examine the ears, identify whether wax is present and remove it where appropriate.

Both ears can be examined using an otoscope or video otoscope, even if only one ear is causing symptoms.
