Microsuction is our main method of ear wax removal. It is widely used because it allows wax to be removed carefully under direct vision, without flushing water into the ear.
A small suction device is used to carefully remove wax from the ear canal while the practitioner views the ear directly. The procedure does not use water and allows wax to be removed in a controlled and precise way.
Microsuction is widely used because it is:
Safe and effective when clinically appropriate
Precise and carefully controlled
Suitable for many types of wax blockage
Performed without flushing water into the ear
Often able to provide immediate relief from wax-related blockage
We explain the procedure before starting and check that you remain comfortable throughout your appointment.
Microsuction Ear Wax Removal
Manual removal may be used when there is a smaller amount of wax near the entrance of the ear canal or where suction is not required.
The practitioner uses specialist ear-care instruments under direct vision to carefully remove suitable pieces of wax.
Manual removal may be used on its own or alongside microsuction, depending on the position, amount and consistency of the wax.
Manual Ear Wax Removal
Water irrigation uses a controlled flow of warm water to gently clear suitable ear wax.
It is not appropriate for every patient or every type of ear problem. Before considering irrigation, we assess your ear health, relevant medical history and the condition of the ear canal and eardrum.
Where irrigation is not suitable, we will explain why and recommend a safer alternative where appropriate.

Professional Ear Health Assessments
Every ear wax removal appointment includes a professional ear health assessment.
We use a high-definition digital ear camera to examine your ear canals and eardrums before treatment. This helps us determine whether wax removal is needed and whether it is safe to proceed.
Where clinically appropriate, we can show you before and after images so you can see the condition of your ears and the results of treatment.
If we identify something that requires medical assessment, such as a possible infection, inflammation or another concern, we will explain our findings and advise you to contact your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional.
Blocked ears or excessive wax can make flying uncomfortable, particularly during take-off and landing.
Our pre-flight ear health checks allow us to examine your ears before you travel and identify whether wax is present. Where removal is needed and clinically appropriate, this can usually be carried out during the same appointment.
A pre-flight check cannot guarantee that you will not experience ear discomfort while flying, but it can provide reassurance that your ears have been professionally examined before your journey.
Pre-Flight Ear Health Checks
Your home visit will usually include:
A discussion about your symptoms and relevant ear history
Examination of both ears using a digital ear camera
A clear explanation of what we can see
Ear wax removal where required and clinically appropriate
Before and after images where appropriate
Ear-care and aftercare advice
A treatment report where applicable
Appointments are scheduled for up to 60 minutes, allowing us time to work carefully without rushing.
What Happens During Your Appointment
Not every blocked or uncomfortable ear is caused by ear wax.
If your ears are clear or wax removal is not required, we will tell you honestly. You will not pay the remaining treatment balance, although your booking fee covers the home visit, ear examination and professional advice.
Where your symptoms may require medical attention, we will advise you on the appropriate next step.
