Ear Care Services in Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole

Ear Care Dorset provides professional mobile ear care services for adults across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and surrounding areas, including microsuction ear wax removal, ear health assessments and pre-flight ear checks.

Every appointment begins with a careful ear health assessment using a digital ear camera. We'll show you what we can see, explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate next step.

Where ear wax removal is needed, we consider the amount, position and type of wax, the condition of the ear canal and your relevant medical history before deciding whether microsuction or another appropriate approach is suitable.

All appointments take place in the comfort of your own home, including visits for people who may find travelling to a clinic difficult.

Our Ear Care Services

Microsuction Ear Wax Removal

Microsuction is our preferred method for removing excessive or impacted ear wax.

A small suction device is used under direct visual guidance, allowing the practitioner to carefully and precisely remove wax from the ear canal.

Microsuction may be suitable for people experiencing:

  • Blocked or full ears caused by wax

  • Muffled or reduced hearing associated with ear wax

  • Recurring or impacted ear wax

  • Problems caused by wax around hearing aids

Before treatment, we examine your ears and explain whether microsuction is appropriate for you.

Manual Ear Wax Removal

Not every piece of ear wax requires suction.

Where appropriate, ear wax may be removed manually using specialist instruments while the practitioner maintains a clear view of the ear canal.

Manual removal can sometimes be useful for:

  • Small amounts of accessible wax

  • Dry or firm wax that can be safely lifted or removed

  • Wax located close to the entrance of the ear canal

  • Situations where a combination of appropriate techniques may help remove wax safely

The method used will depend on the position, consistency and amount of wax present, together with the condition of the ear canal.

Ear Irrigation

Ear irrigation uses a controlled flow of warm water to remove ear wax from the ear canal.

Although microsuction is our preferred method of ear wax removal, Alan and Ryan are also trained, qualified and insured to perform ear irrigation when clinically appropriate.

Irrigation is not suitable for everyone. Before recommending it, we assess your ear health, relevant medical history and any factors that could make the procedure unsuitable.

Our priority is always to recommend an appropriate treatment method based on your individual needs and assessment findings.

Professional Ear Health Assessments

You don't need to know whether ear wax is causing your symptoms before arranging an appointment.

Every Ear Care Dorset appointment includes an ear health assessment using an otoscope or video otoscope to examine the ear canal and, where visible, the eardrum.

We check for:

  • Excessive or impacted ear wax

  • Dry skin, debris or signs of irritation and inflammation

  • Findings that may mean wax removal is unsuitable

  • Whether your ear canals are already clear

Where appropriate, we'll show you the live image from inside your ear and explain what we can see.

If no significant ear wax is present, we won't carry out unnecessary treatment.

If we identify something requiring assessment beyond our scope of practice, we may recommend contacting your GP, pharmacist, audiologist or another appropriate healthcare professional.

Pre-Flight Ear Health Checks

If you are due to fly and are concerned about blocked ears or possible ear wax, we offer a dedicated Pre-Flight Ear Health Check.

The appointment includes an examination of the ear canals and eardrums where visible to check whether obstructive wax is present before you travel.

If ear wax removal is needed and it is clinically appropriate to proceed, treatment can usually be carried out during the same visit.

A pre-flight check does not guarantee that you will avoid pressure-related discomfort while flying, as this can also be caused by problems affecting the middle ear or Eustachian tubes.

Pre-Flight Ear Check: £25, with an additional £40 only if ear wax removal is required.

Ear Care for Hearing Aid Users

People who wear hearing aids may be more prone to problems caused by a build-up of ear wax.

Hearing aids and earmoulds can affect the natural movement of wax out of the ear canal. Excessive wax may also interfere with how a hearing aid performs.

We can examine your ears, check for excessive or impacted wax and remove it where clinically appropriate.

Although Ear Care Dorset does not provide hearing tests, hearing-aid adjustments or repairs, we can assess whether excessive ear wax may be contributing to hearing difficulties and remove it where appropriate.

Ear Care in Residential and Care Settings

We provide professional mobile ear care for adults living in residential care homes, nursing homes and supported-living accommodation across Dorset.

Our home-visit service allows residents to receive ear health assessments and ear wax removal, where appropriate, without the need to travel to a clinic.

Our practitioners have completed Autism Awareness and Dementia-Friendly training and understand the importance of providing calm, compassionate care, with clear explanations and an unhurried approach.

Family members, carers and support workers are welcome to be present where appropriate, helping residents feel comfortable and reassured throughout their appointment.

Reduced fees are available when two or more residents at the same address are seen during the same visit.

Honest Advice If Ear Wax Removal Is Not Needed

Symptoms affecting the ears are not always caused by ear wax.

If your ear canals are clear, we will explain what we can see and will not perform wax removal simply because an appointment has been booked.

Depending on the findings and your symptoms, we may recommend seeking further advice from another healthcare professional.

This assessment-first approach helps ensure that treatment is only carried out when there is a genuine reason to do so.

If no ear wax removal is needed, there's nothing further to pay beyond your £25 booking fee, which includes your home visit and ear health assessment.
