On Wednesday evening, Alan, Ryan and Michelle from Ear Care Dorset had the pleasure of joining the Poole Tinnitus Support Group for their monthly meeting, held at Upton Bay Care Home in Hamworthy.
We were delighted to have been invited as guest speakers and thoroughly enjoyed spending the evening with seven lovely attendees, sharing our knowledge of ear health, answering questions and offering free ear health checks.
Understanding Ear Health and Tinnitus
Tinnitus can affect people in different ways, and understanding the factors that may contribute to symptoms is an important part of looking after your hearing and ear health.
During the evening, Alan and Ryan discussed the importance of good ear health, how earwax builds up and the potential relationship between impacted earwax and tinnitus.
Although tinnitus has many possible causes, excessive earwax can sometimes contribute to symptoms, particularly when it affects hearing. In some cases, removing a significant wax blockage may help, although earwax removal is not a treatment for tinnitus itself.
It was a valuable opportunity to discuss these topics in a relaxed, supportive environment where everyone was welcome to ask questions.
Free Ear Health Checks and Equipment Demonstrations
Alongside the discussion, we brought along some of the equipment we use during our mobile ear care appointments, including our digital ear camera.
Attendees were offered complimentary ear health checks, with the opportunity to see inside their own ears and gain a better understanding of their ear health.
We also explained how we assess the ear canal, identify earwax build-up and determine whether microsuction removal may be appropriate.
One of the things we particularly enjoy about our work is being able to show people what we're seeing and explain our findings clearly. The evening gave us a wonderful opportunity to do just that.
Supporting Our Local Community
A huge thank you goes to Kirsty, the Poole Tinnitus Support Group facilitator, for inviting us and making us feel so welcome.
Kirsty does a wonderful job bringing people together, creating a friendly space where those affected by tinnitus can share experiences, support one another and learn from visiting speakers.
The group meets monthly, and Kirsty has more interesting guest speakers planned for future sessions.
We really enjoyed meeting everyone and hope those who attended found the evening both interesting and helpful.
We're already looking forward to the next opportunity to join the group!
